At 18 on Hill 28 - Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines (M/3/3), On The DMZ

Marine Wesley Frank Solomon, age 18, photographed on Hill 28 by the DMZ.
Wesley served with Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division. In October 1966, 3rd Battalion was deployed to combat the threat from the North Vietnamese Army in Quang Tri Province, and was later put to work building and defending the McNamara Line along the DMZ.
Hill 28 was the Marine outpost just north of the A-3 strongpoint between Con Thien and Gio Linh. On 3 March, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines, occupying an outpost on Hill 28 just north of the A-3, intercepted a PAVN battalion attempting to infiltrate the Marine positions. This is the story of Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines who were ambushed by a battalion of NVA in the eastern DMZ area of operation.
Pictured here on Hill 28, shirtless from the heat, carrying his M60 machine gun - known to grunts as "The Pig" - with dog tags visible and sandbagged fighting position behind him
