
Marines of A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines scale the seawall at Red Beach during the Inchon landing. At the top is 1stLt Baldomero Lopez, leading his Marines into the assault.
Minutes later, Lopez was mortally wounded while attacking an enemy position. Unable to throw a live grenade he had armed, he pulled it beneath his body to protect his Marines. The 25-year-old Marine was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
